The Jesuit Centre for Ecology and Development (JCED) is a social and sustainable development work of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) of the Southern Africa Province (SAP). The Centre is based in Malawi and is engaged in resilience building, adaptation and climate justice advocacy support targeting those most affected and vulnerable in rural and marginalized communities.
JCED work is inspired by and a response to the calls for urgent climate action and the promotion of integral ecology in Laudato Si and the Universal Apostolic Preferences.
Advocating for ecological justice and empowering the vulnerable and marginalized communities to achieve major improvements for sustainable livelihoods.
An inclusive, just and sustainable society where the global community promotes environmental integrity and the dignity of all.
Full immersion in the condition of being human.
The equality of all women and men regardless of race, age, education, economic deprivation, or social status.
Prioritizing the plight of those who struggle to survive, and to put the needs of these most vulnerable members of society.
Reconciling the relationship between God, Creation and one another.
Doing the more, the better, the greater for God and not for ourselves.
Prayer and weighing facts and feelings about the several choices.
Our talents, abilities, physical attributes, personalities, desires, hearts, faith, and minds are all equally worthy of care and attention.
For the Greater Glory of God.
