Jesuit Centre for Ecology & Development

Who we are

The Jesuit Centre for Ecology and Development (JCED) is a social and sustainable development work of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) of the Southern Africa Province (SAP). The Centre is based in Malawi and is engaged in resilience building, adaptation and climate justice advocacy support targeting those most affected and vulnerable in rural and marginalized communities.

JCED work is inspired by and a response to the calls for urgent climate action and the promotion of integral ecology in Laudato Si and the Universal Apostolic Preferences.

  • - Pope Francis’ Encyclical Laudato Si’ plea that we: “hear both the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor” also Laudato Si Action Platform; and
  • - The Society of Jesus Universal Apostolic Preferences (UAPs) 2019-2029 “To collaborate in the care of our Common Home.”
